Ok guys, good news there are local’s that pay off and that are awesome!
The Blue Gum is nothing fancy, nothing over the top it is simply a good local pub with a huge variety of beers on tap, a decent wine list and good quality pub food.
There is nothing extravagant about the Blue Gum it’s simple pub food executed well. For all you locals this is the place to go for a quick feed if you are feeling lazy, don’t want to cook or simply want to socialise with a group of friends.
300g Wagyu Rump, Marble score 9+, Darling downs, QLD is a favourite.
Now the steak doesn’t just come by itself. Its topped with the Blue Gum’s signature homemade chips that are beer battered with their special smokey spice- they’re delicious. A garden salad is also an option for those watching their weight. You also get a choice of sauce to accompany your delicious steak- pepper, mushroom, maple jus, Hickory BBQ , demi glace, liquid chilli fire sauce, chimmichurri or café de paris butter. Now word of warning- if you dare attempt the chilli fire sauce, be prepared to cry. Even the strong have failed. Give it a go – I dare you.
The wagyu rump is always the same, there have never been any variations. The meat is always succulent, melts in your mouth and is extremely tender. Wagyu is always a good choice as there are marbles of fat throughout the meat. When the meat is cooked the juices from the fat really help with the tenderness.
Other suggestions are American spiced BBQ pork ribs, sticky BBQ sauce, beer battered chips & the Tasmanian Atlantic salmon, pea, feta, bean & young herb salad, lemon, honey, crab. Now if you are going for the ribs be aware they are HUGE. I am yet to see someone finish this serving. (There is an option for half a rack)
The salmon is an all time favourite for my mother she loves it. The salmon is always cooked to perfection with a slightly pink middle. The fresh salad underneath is crisp and packed with flavour.
The Blue Gum also have regular specials which will entice all taste buds. Check out this gigantic burger. Anyone who can finish this is worthy of note.
On a poor note- do not go for the mushroom pizza. We found out the hard way that the mushrooms were clearly not fresh and were out of a tin. It doesn’t appear to be on the menu anymore- maybe that’s why!
What I love about the Blue Gum is it’s the perfect place to take your family for dinner or to simply catch up with a mate.
They’re always busy with a constant buzzing atmosphere.
Make sure you book on a Friday or Saturday night as they do fill up.
